DVC of multi-view sequences is a recent field of research, with huge potential impact in applications such as videosurveillance, real-time event streaming from multiple cameras, and, in general, immersive communications. It raises however several problems, and in this paper we tackle two of them. Based on the principles of Wyner–Ziv (WZ) coding, in multi-view DVC many estimations can be generated in order to create the side information (SI) at the decoder. It has been shown that the quality of the SI strongly influences the global coding performances. Therefore, this paper proposes to study the contribution of multiple SI estimations (in the temporal and view directions) to the global performances. Moreover, we propose new symmetric schemes for longer group of pictures (GOP) in multi-view DVC and show that we can further exploit the long-term correlations using a new kind of estimation, called diagonal. For such schemes, several decoding strategies may be envisaged. We perform a theoretical study of the temporal and interview dependencies, and confirm by experiments the conclusion about the best decoding strategy. 2008 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Distributed Coding Scheme for Multi-view Video through Efficient Side Information Generation
In this paper, a distributed image coding scheme for multi-view video through an efficient generation of side information is proposed. A distributed video coding technique corrects the errors in the side information, which is generated with the original image, by using the channel coding technique at the decoder. Therefore, the more correct the generated side information is, the better the perf...
متن کاملMulti-Hypothesis based Distributed Video Coding using LDPC Codes
Conventional video coding paradigms are usually built on the assumption that a video stream will be encoded only once but decoded several times. Over the years, this has lead to the development of encoders, which use complex motion-estimation algorithms to reduce the size of the video bitstream. However in applications like distributed sensor networks, cell-phones etc. the encoder has a limited...
متن کاملNew adaptive interpolation schemes for efficient meshbased motion estimation
Motion estimation and compensation is an essential part of existing video coding systems. The mesh-based motion estimation (MME) produces smoother motion field, better subjective quality (free from blocking artifacts), and higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) in many cases, especially at low bitrate video communications, compared to the conventional block matching algorithm (BMA). Howev...
متن کاملResearch on Transmission Performance of MVC Schemes Based on Improved Free-Viewpoint Video System Framework
Based on the analysis of the classical free viewpoint video (FVV) system, an improved framework of FVV system for high interaction is proposed, which focuses on the requirements and capabilities of receiver side, and aims to achieve low cost of bandwidth, decoder and view generation. Under the framework, disparity search should be completed in server side so as to make view generation to be sim...
متن کاملRecent Advances in Multi-view Distributed Video Coding
We consider dense networks of surveillance cameras capturing overlapped images of the same scene from different viewing directions, such a scenario being referred to as multi-view. Data compression is paramount in such a system due to the large amount of captured data. In this paper, we propose a Multi-view Distributed Video Coding approach. It allows for low complexity / low power consumption ...
